New Linn County Mental Health Access Center, to open soon!

Several NAMI Linn County Board Members and the Executive Director of NAMI Linn County got a VIP tour of the Linn County Mental Health Access Center. It’s a relatively new concept of short-term, crisis-oriented care offering high-quality behavioral treatment for persons 18+ years and older. This welcoming space for adults will assist with crisis stabilization of mental health and substance abuse for 24/7 days. As an alternative placement for voluntary crisis care, the access center will avoid inappropriate placement in hospital emergency rooms, inpatient hospital units, or jail. Erin Foster, the Executive Director, leads a team of mental health staff from Foundation 2, the Abbe Center for Community Mental Health, ASAC, and the Penn Center Residential Care (Jackie Duggan Smith is the Executive Director of Penn Center Residential Care, and is also a NAMI Linn County Board Member).

The Access Center is located at the former Linn County Public Department Building, 501 13th Street, NW, Cedar Rapids, Iowa. The opening date is TBD in 2020.
